Weight Gain...What's your struggle?

As I've struggled with weight gain and loss, for the majority of my life, I've often wondered..."What is the main reason for my weight gain?" Is it boredom, laziness, stress, comfort, a relationship? I ask myself this question, "What about obtaining and maintaining a healthy weight is so difficult for me?" What about you? Have you ever wondered about this in your own life? Do you find yourself sometimes eating and watching t.v., wondering what happened to that family size bag of chips, lol. What about being lonely? Have you ever found yourself eating out of loneliness? I have....

So what's the solution? How do we solve this problem of connecting the dots between weight gain and some of the internal stresses we deal with on the daily basis? Let me know, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and suggestions as to how to combat this ongoing battle...

Starting any fitness regimen is always challenging, but when you have the support of somebody else, it takes some of the sting out of the journey.

Check out week 3 of our training session at the Chattahoochee River Trail. I'm so proud to be on this journey with these ladies. They are dedicated to the movement and we encourage each other along the way...

Walking Curves™ & Plush Boutique's Television Apperance

I had the wonderful opportunity to appear on Atlanta & Company, a morning show television program, highlighting Walking Curves, a plus size women's group dedicated to health, wellness, fitness & fun! I was joined by Wendy Brown, the owner of Plush Boutique, that showcases upscale, designer clothing for the plus size woman.

I was so excited to share Walking Curves with the world, along with the vision, the mission and the goals of the organization. It was created to help plus size women, tackle issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and many other aliments that plague women today.

Please take a moment to view the highlights from the show and learn more about both of these great businesses, working together...Enjoy!

It's a thin line between love & hate...

Working out has been a thorn in my side for a very long time. I'm trying to learn to reestablish my relationship with fitness and health, on a more consistent basis. Slow and steady as you go, they say...

There have been times when I am on a roll, with being consistent, dedicated, eating well, and feeling good. Then, on the other side of the coin, I DREAD even driving past the gym (lol). Deciding to go to the gym at times, is like the "good" me and the "bad" me sitting on my shoulders, and I'm in the middle, torn, on which on will win. Hate to admit it, but the "bad" me typically gets the "W."

So with the challenges we face with working out, what exercises do you "love" to do, and which ones do you "hate?" Also, what exercises are challenging for you, but you could decide to incorporate more often?

Happy Exercising....(or not, lol)

The "2nd Half" of 2010

Here we are at the beginning of a new month and a little more that half way through 2010. Are there any goals you've set for yourself that you've yet to complete? Or maybe you've considered incorporating new things into your life and have yet to take the plunge. The 2nd half of the year would be a GREAT time to get started. This can be a good marker for you to chart your progress or it can be a good place to restart a few things that need a bit more attention.

Whatever the goal, give more attention to it. Symbolically, "8" is the number of "new beginnings", and with this being the eighth month of the year, go ahead and set some things in motion. It could be that you want to alter some of your eating habits. OK, well challenge yourself to only drinking water with every meal for a week. Next, you could monitor what time you're eating your meals, particularly your evening meal. It's good practice to stop eating 3 hours before bedtime, that way, your food will have an opportunity to digest before you sleep.

Now is the best time in your life, and these are just a few things to think about as we step into the "2nd half" of 2010...Make the most of it!
Got more suggestions? Please post them for others to note... We'd love to hear from you!

See you at the finish line...

Walking Curves™ First Training Day

Well... Day 1 is under our belts and we SURVIVED...Thank Goodness! This is the beginning of our journey toward living our best life and becoming more proactive about our fitness and health. We trained at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, bright and early on Saturday Morning.

The day started with a brisk walk around the park to get warm up, followed by upper body, lower body, stretching, and finished up with a run / walk around the park, to complete the work out. It was a good (and challenging) day had by all, and we're looking forward to next week...Next Stop, Silver Comet Trail!

See you at the finish line...

Walking Curves™ Kickoff Coctail Party

So before the ladies of Walking Curves and I got started on our journey of participating in this 5k, presented by Kaiser Permanente, a friend of mine suggested that we come together with other interested women in the journey and have a "Last Supper" cocktail party. The idea was to get all of our bad eating out the way, before we shifted gears and begin focusing on the tasks at hand...Training for the 5k.

Plush Boutique, an upscale clothing boutique catering to plus size women, honored us by allowing us to have our party there. In spite of the rain that day, we had a wonderful turn out of excited ladies, along with a good serving of junk food. The dessert certainly DID NOT disappoint, either. We were treated to the infamous 'CAKE BALLS' by Nikki. For all of my ladies with a sweet tooth, this is a danger to you, so STAY AWAY FOR THEM, lol!
Thanks to all of my sponsors for supporting our movement: Plush Boutique, Practical Bodies Fitness and Massage, Gemini Magazine, Daily Venus Diva Magazine, GNC, Life Size Radio, and Divas Unlimited, Inc.

Welcome to Mad As Hell At the Scale™

Today is Walking Curves first entry for our new blog, "Mad As Hell at the Scale." I am excited about this new addition to the Walking Curves Group and hope you are too. Walking Curves was founded of the prinicples of being a safe place for plus size women concerns as it relates to health and wellness.

Working out is HARD to do, but it can be done! Achieving a goal is HARD to do, but it can be done and this will serve as a place to vent about the many challenges of starting and sticking to a work out regimen, as well as all of the triumphs and victories you attain as a plus size woman, navigating through the world and sometimes the 'clutter' of fitness.

We'd would love to hear about your goals, or even stop by to get inspired. Post images of your journey, and chat with other women about what their doing and how you can incorporate it into your life.

We are planning to participate in our first event, a 5k, presented by Kaiser Permanente in September. The goal is to be the largest group of plus size women EVER to cross the finish line. You should join us! For more information, email walkingcurves@gmail.com and learn more about how you can become apart of this movement...
